LUIS OLASO · MEDOUSA
MEDOUSA is the first solo exhibition in Madrid of the artist Luis Olaso.
This exhibition has as a leitmotiv the human visage, as an element capable of defining the soul’s identity, from its absence (in the paintings) to its presence (in the mannequins).
It is the intention of the artist to create a reflection about the human visage; the face from the religious imaginary to publicity nowadays acts as a universal claim, nevertheless Luis Olaso’s bodies, mainly feminine, are portrayed without head. This absence doesn’t create a less dramatic aura or rests identity to the pieces, but highlights that portraits are linked to the humans interior even in a higher level that to the appearance or morphology.
Luis Olaso (Bilbao, 1986) has exhibited his creations as a solo artist in different museums and galleries: Pablo Picasso Museum in Malague, Zabaleta Museum in Jaen, Ibercaja in Zaragoza, Centro 14 of Alicante, Aixerrota Art of Getxo and Abartium Gallery in Barcelona, to name a few.
His sculptures and paintings have been selected as a finalist in prestigious art contests like the Painting and Sculture Art Prize of the Reina Sofía Museum 2017, Contemporary Art Bienal of Cerveira (Portugal) 2017, Young artists Biennal of Sabadell, International Art Prize of “Rafael Zabaleta”, Ibercaja Young Art Prize, etc.
